Cathedral of Saint Mary of the See (Spanish: Catedral de Santa María de la Sede), better known as Seville Cathedral.10 viewsIn late morning (Oct 9), we visited Seville Cathedral. It is a Roman Catholic cathedral in Seville (Andalusia, Spain). It was registered in 1987 by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, along with the Alcázar palace complex and the General Archive of the Indies next door. It is the third largest cathedral in the world, behind St. Peter's Basilica in Vatican, and St Paul's Cathedral in London. It has a quarter of million sq feet!

This morning (Oct 12) we visited the National Palace of Queluz. 10 viewsIt was conceived as a summer retreat for Dom Pedro of Braganza, later to become husband and then king consort to his own niece, Queen Maria I. It served as a discreet place of incarceration for Queen Maria as her descent into madness continued in the years following Dom Pedro's death in 1786. Following the destruction by fire of the Ajuda Palace in 1794, Queluz Palace became the official residence of the Portuguese prince regent John VI, and his family until 1807.
